Tip: Having a strong and deep bass in a car is a fantastic experience, but if you want your subwoofer to play hard, you need to make sure it receives enough power.

For me, the most impressive amplifiers that can power any type of subwoofers are SKAR Audio RP, or if you are searching for competition-grade models, take a look at the SKV2 Serie and its top SKV2-4500.1D.

In the article below, I will explain why these are the best hard-hitting subs for your car and which one is a no-brainer to buy.

How to Find Hard-Hitting Subwoofers for a Vehicle

To choose the best hard-hitting subwoofers, you need to consider a few details:

A Number of Speakers

Some subwoofers have dual and even triple speakers, which increases the intensity of sound. However, most subwoofers have one speaker, and you will have to purchase more to increase your audio output.

The Amplifier

A subwoofer’s strength is defined by its magnet, cone, and suspension. If the amplifier isn’t strong enough, though, even a top-notch sub can make mediocre sounds.

The Shape of the Subwoofer

Subwoofers come in a variety of shapes, including square, cylindrical, or circular. The shape affects their acoustics and how hard they hit.

The Size of the Subwoofer

The size of the subwoofer is critical if you want your car to start to shake, but the biggest subwoofers are not necessarily the best. So instead of buying the biggest subwoofer, look for the ones made with the best materials and have a better design.

With these factors in mind, let’s consider some of the best options on the market with a range of sizes and shapes so that you can choose the one that best suits you and your vehicle.

Skar Audio ZVX-15v2 D2

This is my number one when it comes to loudness. The ZVX-15v2 D2 is a fantastic subwoofer that won’t fall short of your bass expectations.

Its sound exceeds the needs of any true audiophile. With 1500W RMS and a 3-inch high-temperature voice coil, you can only imagine what it does to the air inside the car.

ZVD15v2 has a competition-grade paper cone and high roll foam surround, which makes it able to withstand brutality while performing efficiently at its highest levels.

The downside is that to make this monster work, you need to have a powerful amplifier and, ideally, a monoblock. I had it run by Taramps 900745 8K and could not turn the volume up over a half without feeling that the car would fall apart from the vibrations.

Well, that was definitely more than I was expecting. 15″ Skar gave me a similar experience to the previously used Memphis Mojo 15″, which is also a fantastic sub, however skar ZVD15v2 is cheaper.

JL Audio 12W0V3

JL Audio is highly regarded for its home and automobile subwoofers, and the 12W0V3-4 from JL is designed for closed enclosures.

This design makes it especially powerful to use in your car without compromising sound quality. It produces crisp, hard-hitting acoustics.

The 12W0V3-4 has an elevated frame, allowing cool air to enter the acoustic frame and enhance sound. When two are used together, the subwoofer doubles in power, making a clean, crisp sound.

American Bass XFL1244

The American Bass XFL is an excellent choice as it offers superior sound with a hard-hitting impact.

It is particularly popular as it can hit pretty hard when playing bass, beats, and hip hop. However, when you choose to play smoother genres like jazz, it has soft acoustics.

The XFL1244 is made with a density foam that allows for better acoustic control and has a wireless system that pairs quickly with the in-build audio in your car. If you have a room, you can use it both in the front and back of your vehicle.

Kicker L715 Q-Class

This 15-inch (38 cm) square subwoofer is one of the larger subwoofers available on the market.

The added surface area creates more air producing a more powerful sound, and Kicker’s square-shaped drivers move air more efficiently, creating more sound and harder hits.

At 13.78 x 13.78 x 9.84 inches (35 x 35 x 24.99 cm) and 40.7 pounds (18.46 kg), the Kicker L715 takes up a lot of space. Because of its size and mass, it is suitable for larger cars like SUVs. You can choose 2 or 4 coils depending on the type of sound you need.

Kicker CompQ12 Q-Class

The Kicker CompQ12 is an excellent subwoofer designed to reduce vibrations that may distort the sound.

It is one of the best 12-inch (30.48 cm) options on the market and offers excellent acoustics for a wide variety of musical genres.

You can use this subwoofer in a variety of different vehicles, including cars and trucks. Even in a bigger vehicle, the sound produced is excellent, with crisp high quality at a range of base levels.

Skar Audio ZVX-8

Even if you have a smaller car, you can still enjoy hard-hitting beats.

The best for that is Skar 8 inch subwoofer which is a smaller model that you can use if you have limited space. However, even though it is small, it still produces a crisp and hard-hitting sound that can shake your car to the limits.

If you are after a larger model with the same features, you can select from a range of different variants of the Skar Audio, including a 12″ (30.48 cm), 15″ (38 cm), and 18″ (45.72 cm) version.

The disadvantage is that this sub is not waterproof, so if you want it installed in the convertible or off-road car, you will better choose a different model.

JBL Stage 102

If you’re after a hard-hitting but narrow subwoofer with limited mounting depth, the JBL Stage 102 should be your choice. It’s thinner than the majority of other woofers but does not compromise on quality.

Its performance and durability have been tested rigorously. So, this subwoofer will perform even in the most extreme conditions.

Moreover, it costs well under $100, making it an excellent choice if you do not have much room or a limited budget.

Rockford Fosgate P300-10 Punch

The Rockford Fosgate Subwoofer is popular because it is already assembled and ready to be installed in your car. It is built into its enclosure and equipped with a 300W amplifier.

Its whole setup is designed to produce a hard-hitting, crisp, and clear sound. The only thing you have to do is to plug it into the radio.

It also comes with a remote bass level control that allows you to select the type of sound you want and includes built-in thermal and voltage protection.

The Rockford Fosgate Subwoofer works best when installed in your car’s boot or back seat area, and it sounds excellent in smaller cars, like hatchbacks.

Conclusion

When looking for a subwoofer that will shake your entire car, you want to be sure that you have a heavy car subwoofer with a large magnet and robust cone.

It can be hard to choose just one subwoofer type, especially if you are looking for car subwoofers that will knock your socks off.

In the car subwoofer, size does matter when it comes to the loudness, but this is only one of the parameters that can tell how good a subwoofer is.

That will allow the woofer to produce low frequencies, and ideally, if they start at around 25Hz to add real depth to your favorite music. Remember that thanks to the subwoofers, we can actually feel some notes, not just hear them.
