Can You Use Kindle Fire on the Car?

Having installed Bluetooth in a car brings many benefits to the driver and passengers.

One of them is adding Kindle Fire to the car stereo. But how should you use Kindle Fire in the car? Let’s find out.

Generally, you can use a Kindle Fire in the car, and there are two ways to connect it. The first one is by using Bluetooth, the second way by direct connection with AUX port. Depending on the connection type, you will need different devices.

Tip: If you want to listen to music or audiobooks on your Kindle Fire in your car, and your radio does not support Bluetooth, then you will need a Bluetooth transmitter and a 3.5mm auxiliary cable.

Of all available transmitters, my favorite one thanks to its screen is the Nulaxy that supports both Bluetooth and radio.

In the article below, I will go through connection types for the Kindle Fire in cars and explain how to use it properly.

What Kind of Kindle Fire Do I Need for Using in Car?

There are two main types of Kindle Fire you can find on the market, “HD” and “HDX.”

“HDX,” although it used to be an upgraded version of the Kindle Fire with a better screen, has been discontinued, and all of the features are currently included in all new “HD” versions.

Kindle Fire HD has a screen in three sizes of 7″, 8″, and 10″. It is equipped with the latest Bluetooth 5.0 LE compatible with car radios, stereo headphones, speakers, microphones, and other accessories.

If you want to use your kindle fire in the car with a Bluetooth connection, the better option is to buy a newer model with better hardware. For the older Kindle HD models, you may experience pairing issues with your radio if their Bluetooth versions are not compatible.

You have to activate Kindle Fire in car mode by pressing the power button for about 5 seconds until you see a new menu.

When you turn on your car, you will see the Kindle Fire screen appear automatically. It will show you some basic info about the current battery level and the estimated driving time remaining. This menu also has a shortcut to FM radio right at the top of the screen.

It is worth mentioning that few users experienced problems with the Bluetooth connection between kindle fire and the car radio. If your radio has a Bluetooth option, you need to activate it before connecting with the Kindle Fire.

When your tablet is paired with the radio, search for available networks on your car radio and select “Kindle Fire” to connect with it. Now you can listen to what is on kindle fire using radio speakers.

The same pattern works when it comes to audiobooks. Your Kindle will start downloading new material from the Amazon store, and you will be able to listen to them during the trip.

How Do I Connect My Kindle to My Car Stereo?

If your car has Bluetooth, you can pair it with Kindle using the Bluetooth settings on the device in the same way as if you would pair your phone.

If your radio does not support Bluetooth, connect your Kindle to a USB port in your car radio, then select “USB Drive” from the list of available networks on your car stereo.

This will allow you to play the music on Kindle through your car speakers.

How to Solve Connection Problems for Kindle Fire in the Car?

Sometimes after connecting, you may face some issues with the Kindle device, but these issues are easy to fix:

Kindle Does Not Connect via Bluetooth.

In this case, you need to go to “Settings” and then “Bluetooth.” Here you have to switch on Bluetooth and pair the devices.

Can’t Listen to Kindle Through Car Speakers.

In this case, there might be a problem with a USB cable, so try to reconnect it, reset the Kindle and try again. You can also have an issue with the OS version, so make sure to download the most recent version, update and see if it works.

Kindle Shows’ USB Drive’ as an Available Connection, but No Music Plays on the Stereo Even It Is Connected.

In this case, the issue might be with the stereo. First, try to turn off the stereo, and if it does not help, try to reset its memory.

Kindle Fire Is Not Charging in Car.

In this case, you need to check the wire that connects the Kindle with the charger. If the wire is damaged, try to change it and see if it helps. If not, you can buy a new car charger for the Kindle.

If you face any issues, Go to the Amazon website, look for the latest kindle updates, and install it first before starting any other troubleshooting.

Remember that the most recent software version is needed for Kindle Fire to work correctly, especially for the Bluetooth connection.

How Can I Listen to Kindle Audiobooks in My Car?

Audiobooks are a great way to enjoy long journeys, and you can listen to them on the Kindle Fire via car speakers.

To do this, connect your Kindle Fire and your car with Bluetooth. Then select an audiobook file from the Kindle library or storage to play it via Bluetooth.

You can also listen to the saved audiobooks in all formats supported via the car stereo. Then, connect the car audio system to your kindle fire and simply play the file.

If you want to listen to music or audiobooks on your Kindle Fire in your car, and your radio does not support Bluetooth, then you will need a Bluetooth receiver and a 3.5mm auxiliary cable.

Many devices are available, but the Nulaxy Wireless In-Car Bluetooth FM Transmitter with Radio Adapter is my favorite.

The best part about the Nulaxy is its screen that is not too bright and not too overloaded with icons or information. It is just simple, and it shows exactly what I need to see.

Conclusion

So, when you wonder if you can use Kindle fire in your car, the simple answer is yes.

The best way to listen to the audiobooks is via Bluetooth, but if this option is not possible for you, you will need to spend some extra money on a Bluetooth receiver and 3.5mm auxiliary cable.

After connecting, you can listen to music and watch movies on your Kindle Fire using car speakers.
